Mystery Part in Apple II Plus

Hello,

I am new to Apple II's and, recently, purchased an Apple II Plus off of ebay for a great price.  There was no guarantee of it working, but, that's ok.  It had 3 cards and the price was good.   :-)

Inside the case, I found a mystery part and it looks like the picture below.  I've been keeping my eyes open to try to figure out what it is.  Now, I've found another one jammed under the keyboard.  My thought is that it doesn't belong and a kid decided to put his toys in the computer.  But, I am unsure.

Does this look familiar?

The Apple II Plus also had 3 cards; an 80 column card (connected to a toggle switch on the underside of the front keyboard section), a 16k card, and a parallel printer card.  No chips are missing but the reset key is missing.  The power supply is DOA and I am trying to fix it.  New capacitors are arriving today.

Thanks!

Brian

It doesn't look at all

It doesn't look at all familiar to me and I've had a lot of ][+ units open over the years.

If the caps don't fix the PS, I'd recommend checking for the thread on here about using a Mean Well PT-65B board to replace the original one.  That's a very cost effective way to go.  Can be done for about $30 including the Mean Well power supply board, a 7905 regulator, heat sink and a peice of acrylic to mount everything to.  Everything fits inside the original PS enclosure so it looks stock externally.  This opion gives you a totally new modern power supply and I think it puts out a bit more power than the originals too, though I'd have to look at the specs again.

I haven't seen one of those since 1978...

Ooo yes, I recognize that.

That's a playfield obstacle from a Parker Bros  Mind Maze game set.

PS: Anyone who owned Mind Maze in the 1970's would remember these things because you needed a full set of them to play the game, but these little parts continually  getting lost in dark corners, under sofa cushions, beneath the piano, inside a Commodore PET, etc etc...

Well, the caps didn't fix it.

Well, the caps didn't fix it.   :-(    There is no output on the power supply and I can hear a ticking noise when I shut it down.

 Almost never.

That's how often new caps fix dead Apple power supplies.

The fixed power supply has

The fixed power supply has been running for well over an hour.  Looking good.   :-)

I had to mess around with the keyboard a little but I think it is working good as well.  It seems it was just a little flakey from not being used.   I'll need to find another power light, as well.  The 80 column board works, too.   :-)
